I stayed for one night on my cycling tour of Wales. I found this to be one of the best places I've stayed in so far. My rooom was spacious, very clean and had everything I needed to recover from a hard days cycle riding. The breakfast was very good and took into consideration my need for it to be gluten free. I also had a secure place to store my bike and recharge the battery. I'd have no hesitation it recommending this excellent guest house which is very conveniently located near the centre of town.

I used Maenllwyd Guest House as a base for a four night stay whilst exploring and walking in the area. The room was very comfortable with all the facillities and the cooked breakfast was excellent each day. Situated only a few minutes walk from Machynlleth Town Centre the guest house is ideally located for both bus and train journeys to the coast and numerous places inland. I will certainly want to come back when I'm next walking in the area.

Stayed here for a couple of nights to tour round the north west of Wales on our motorcycles (Wife and I). The room we stayed in was lovely, very clean and quiet, with all the facilities we needed. There was a huge amount of very safe parking for our bikes. The breakfast was great, with decent options to choose from each day. Our host, Gareth, was absolutely awesome. Such a lovely guy and an absolute pleasure to have a chat with each morning/afternoon. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and will very likely be back again!

I enjoyed my stay here. You were welcoming and explained everything to me.The bedroom and the bed were spacious and the bed comfortable. The overall cost of bed and breakfast was good value. The shower drain needs fixing and there was no shower gel.The breakfast, the ambiance and the range of cereals ,orange etc was great value-plus the cooked part of course. I'd suggest poached eggs on toast as an option too.I'd definitely recommend you and stay with you again.

Right in town everything walkable .Breakfast looked and smelled great but I had to leave too early to have it.Everything was clean and tidy with tea coffee in room.On site parking which is ideal.I stayed elsewhere the previous night at a local pub as it was arranged for me but I wish I’d stayed here both as it was so much nicer.

A very clean and comfortable bedroom was complemented by an excellent, freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. The location is very good for walking into the town, and visiting local attractions in mid-Wales. A warm welcome was appreciated, together with our luggage being carried upstairs (especially as our room was on the second floor!). All facilities advertised were provided, but perhaps the shower and hot water supply in the bathroom could have been better. Overall, excellent value for money.

The room was lovely, very clean and comfortable , the proprieter, Garethwas very welcoming, carried my suitcase up and he cooked a very fine breakfast next morning.I had a relaxing read in the beautiful gardens in the evening . I explored the beautiful town of Machynlleth before checking in . I then travelled on through Wales next day . I would certainly stay here again .

Thank you to Jane and Gareth for welcoming us in to there lovely large Victorian B & B. In the heart of the historical town of Machynlleth surrounded by stunning landscapes as far as the eye can see. The large stone town house stands in lovely gardens with plenty of roadparking. On arrival we were welcomed by our host Jane and shown directly to our first floor double room. The room was spotlessly clean with our own on suet. The breakfast wast delicious and enjoyable. Highly recommend

We were only visiting for one night as part of a tour of Wales. We chose to stay here as it is close to The Centre for Alternative Technology. We experienced a warm greeting and our room was very comfortable. The ensuite was a little dated but all in good working order. The breakfast system is very efficient, each guest chooses the time and what they want the night before and it is ready for you when you get down to the breakfast room the following morning. There was plenty of parking for guests and it is a short walk into the centre of the town, very convenient for restaurants etc. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Great location close to town, imposing building, pretty room, very comfy beds, very clean and tidy, first class breakfast and congenial hosts.Slight downside was due to actually having very warm weather and wanting the window open over night, found the road was quite busy and noisy, but couldn't hear traffic with window shut.Would definitely stay again if in the area and don't hesitate to recommend.

Enjoyed my overnight stay here. Friendly hosts, happy to give information on local area, eating places, and give provide me with analgesics when developing an unexpected muscular pain, lol! An older property, but I had a lovely comfortable room (Room 1) overlooking the garden and surrounding forest added to the experience. Perfectly adequate breakfast with a choice of cereal and freshly cooked breakfast, plus toast etc. There seemed to be several guests who had stayed there before, - always a good sign. I would certainly stay again.

What a wonderful welcome, more or less all the facilities offered were excellent.Superb Breakfast pleasantly served on Hot Plates,& early as requested, Secure Parking,we could not wish for better. One facility, which could be offered would be to put an extra Hand Rail on the stairs for the benefit of customers who have difficulty climbing stairs, if opportunity arises we would most certainly stay there again.Staying with you was a pleasure.to both Gareth & JaneYours sincerely,Alun & Evana Lewis

First class room. The breakfast was so huge it defeated me which was a shame because it was perfectly cooked. But best of all was the attitude of the owner, nothing was too much trouble for him.

I stayed here for two nights and felt that Maenllwyd Guest House really made an effort to make my stay comfortable. I appreciated that when finding out that I do not drink milk they ensured there was soya milk in the room for my tea and at breakfast, with a nak'd bar snack :) Breakfast was excellent choice of cereals, hot breakfasts and fruit. The room was lovely too, with a beautiful view to wake up to, an all round lovely atmosphere to stay in. Thank you.

My partner and I stayed at Maenllwd for 2 nights in October 2016 to do a section of the Wales Coastal Path. The house is very conveniently situated close to the centre of Machynlleth close to shops, evening eating places and buses. There is good onsite parking. It is very clean and cosy and the young proprietors extremely helpful. They do a marvellous breakfast. Our room was perhaps a bit on the small side but very comfortable.

We stayed at this guest house for a walking weekend. Rooms were comfortable and the breakfasts were very good. Our hosts were very helpful with lots of advice and tips. The 4 star rating is purely because our bedroom had a broken aerial attachment, one electrical socket was slightly coming away from the wall and the shower head came off. All easily fixable so I would recommend this B&B. Thanks.
Response
Hi Christine,Thank you for your kind review. We have fixed both the aerial and electrical socket and shower head is next on our list.It is only from honest reviews that we can improve our guests experience of our guest house.Hope you will visit again soon.Gareth & Jane

From the very beginning before even booking the room, the customer service we received was amazing. We were travelling to Wales over night for a wedding so needed somewhere to freshen up before the ceremony. We asked for an early check in which of course the owners came back to me andwas fine. The owners of the guest house were extremely friendly, showed us around and made us feel very welcome. The room was comfortable, with everything we could need. The following morning after a fantastic (well needed) night sleep, breakfast was served at the time we required, with everything you could think of.If we are in the area again, we will not hesitate to staying in the Maenllwyd guest house. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. We will definitely recommend you to our friends and family.

All the usual facilities you expect in a b&b are here, efficiently provided. A very generous breakfast, for instance, well and quickly cooked. Its not just efficient, though, but friendly too, which makes all the difference. I've given it 4 stars not because there's anything wrong, but because I don't want to make it sound like the Ritz. It's nicer than that.

We would like to rate it higher than good - it would be very good and with a few tweaks achieve excellent. The host is very welcoming and you feel at home and relaxed straight away. There were a number of nice touches such as tissues, lovely biscuits, hot chocolate, tea, easy parking, lovely grounds which we liked and of course it was within walking distance of the town. Breakfast was outstanding - good choice cereals , fruits, yogurts, juice, really tasty bacon , sausages, eggs etc which were of a high standard and quality. Offers of more tea and toast if you wanted it completed a nice start to our day. Shower control was difficult to get the right temperature .Bottom line - we really enjoyed it and will definitely return. Thank you Gareth for a lovely stay.

Nicely situated along the main high street, the Maenllwyd was perfect for my requirements.Parking available off street, a nice big room and comfortable bed; separate WC, sink and shower.Plenty of provisions, coffee, tea, biscuits, soap, lotion, etc.Host Gareth was welcoming and prepared a mean breakfast which was very hearty and set me up very well for the day.I will (and am) going again.

Hello -we've stayed at this very pleasing BnB several times now.Always found it clean and tidy, decent sized rooms. Breakfast is great and plenty of it! The owner is welcoming and goes above and beyond in my opinion. He was kind enough to allow me use of his garage while it was raining and I was attempting some tricky repairs to my motorcycle! He was also fine about us leaving the van there all day on our last day, even though we'd checked out. Wouldn't stop anywhere else in Mac.Awesome!

This was our second stay and each time we had a warm welcome and helpful, friendly service from Gareth. The guest house is very clean and well positioned at the quiet end of the Main Street, so just a short walk to shops, cafés and pubs, not to forget some lovely walks.

We were made to feel most welcome and had a most enjoyable stay. We had our dogs with us - 2 weimaraners who aren't small and they were well catered for too!The double room was a good size for us all and the en-suite facilities were immaculately clean. There was plenty of choice available for breakfast and the quality was impressive. Many thanks for looking after us so well. We would definitely recommend Maenllwyd Guest House.

I had a warm welcome from Gareth; the room was clean and tidy with more than adequate facilities - tea, coffee, Wi-Fi, TV etc.He advised on the best places to eat, The White Lion was the best. He also cooked the best breakfast to set you up for the day; other choices of breakfast were available as well.I have already recommended it to family and I will be staying there again.

We first stayed at Maenllwyd some 13 years ago and this return visit did not disappoint. We stayed one night in the family room, arriving around 8pm and departing immediately after breakfast. The house is well positioned, just a few minutes walk from the town centre. It was as we remembered and whilst the decor may seem a little outdated to some, modern touches (throws, cushions, toiletries) are clearly evident and tastefully placed. The family room is a good size, was spotlessly clean and it was a welcome change for our two teenage daughters to sleep in proper beds (they are more used to budget hotel family rooms that usually accomodate children in a sofa bed).Despite initial concerns that we were on the third floor on one of the hottest days of the year, we all slept well and were not disturbed by excess traffic noise despite leaving both windows open.Gareth happily accomodated the peculiar needs of a triathlete, both in terms of equipment and diet!Breakfast was served promptly, in a bright and airy dining room that overlooked the garden. There was a good selection of the usual cold and cooked items. All in all a lovely evening and we will continue to make Maenllwyd our guest house of choice on return vists to the town.

This B&B has always been single friendly with very good prices and I have often ended up in a double or even family room at no extra cost. I have never had trouble parking which can be a big problem at many UK b&b's. Fabulous cooked breakfasts.Warm, comfortable rooms. Friendly hosts.Generally a great value place to stay.

Lovely friendly chap greeted us on arrival, helped unload car. Nice big room with garden view, tea, coffee etc. Relaxed atmosphere and situated in close proximity to Machynlleth centre. If there would be one thing to mention to the lovely chap its that the room could do with a bit more dusting, but its not a criticism. Would definitely come and stay again.

Positive:Easy booking via websiteWarm welcome on arrivalSubstantial breakfastComfortable en-suite facilitiesAmple off-road parkingReasonable value-for-moneyNegative:Decor could do with a refreshUnusually for mid-Wales the room was warm overnight. I had to open the window, which allowed outside traffic noise to disturb my sleep. The provision of a cooling fan might have helped.

We were stopping for two nights and there was a slight mix-up over booking leaving us in a twin instead of double room for one of the nights. Gareth offered, nay insisted, that we only pay for one night. Astonishing generousity! The breadfast was excellent with big fat juicy local sausage and succulent thick bacon, all cooked perfectly. Lovely people, lovely atmosphere. A lucky find and an absolute gem. Thank you, we will be back.

I chose this hotel because it is a close drive to the Centre for Alternative Technology (and charged a reasonable price). The service was good - as was the full breakfast. The well maintained family sized room that I stayed in had a pleasant 'retro' late 1980 style. I would definitely recommend to others/consider staying there again.
